Pilots’ Recommended Maximum Loading Drafts – See Special
Notices and Reminders below for specific issues relating to these channels.

Southwest Pass to New Orleans Effective at 0800 hours on March 2, 2011, the Bar Pilots increased the draft to 45 feet, fresh water.

Above New Orleans (Mile 90.0) through Baton Rouge (Mile 233.5) – Effective March 14, 2011, the Baton Rouge Pilots increased their recommended draft to 47 feet for vessels transiting up to Mile 180.  From Mile 180 to Mile 232.1, the recommended draft is 45 feet.  These restrictions may be increased or decreased as conditions warrant; therefore, it is strongly suggested that you confirm conditions and recommendations with the New Orleans-Baton Rouge Steamship Pilots Association before scheduling transits in this reach of the river.

Officially de-authorized on April 22, 2009 from Mile 60 outward to the Gulf of Mexico.

Mississippi River – Clearances for Mississippi River bridges are at zero on the gauges shown. The gauge readings given below must be subtracted to determine current air draft.

(*During days of construction in the main navigable span of the Huey P. Long Bridge, the maximum air draft varies.  Contact GSMA for up-to-date air draft information.)

INDUSTRIAL CANAL LOCKS

Actual Lock Dimensions:  75 feet wide by 640 feet long with a depth of 31.5 feet

Maximum Allowable Vessel Dimensions are as follows:

Beam:  74 feet

LOA:  The total length of any ship plus assist vessels shall not exceed 550 feet during daylight hours (sunrise until one hour before sunset).  During nighttime hours (one hour before sunset to sunrise), the maximum length shall be 510 feet.

Draft:  30 feet

Pilots’ Recommended Maximum Loading Draft for the Calcasieu Ship Channel – 40 feet fresh water.

The present maximum vessel drafts at CITGO docks in Lake Charles are:
       • Maximum draft at Clifton Ridge terminal is 40 Feet Freshwater
       • Maximum draft at Clifton Ridge Barge Slip is 10.4 Feet Freshwater
    
       • Maximum draft at "A" Dock is 15 Feet Freshwater (Barge Traffic Only)
       • Maximum draft at "B" Dock is 36 Feet Freshwater
       • Maximum draft at "C" Dock is 40 Feet Freshwater
       • Maximum draft at "D" Dock is 32 Feet Freshwater (Barge Traffic Only)
      
       • Maximum draft at "A" Slip is 9 Feet Freshwater
       • Maximum draft at "C" Slip is 9.06 Feet Freshwater
